A part-time employee  
There are days I really love working part time. Days like today.

Work was normal. Dull, a bit uninspiring, but productive. Essentially, an ideal day to work on my writing. So, I thought of ideas and formed characters and plots and scenes in my mind as I filed McCarthy on Trademarks and Unfair Competition and sundry others. These scenes were still on my mind when I left work to go pick up ingredients for dinner.

A bit of Starbucks coffee, a bagel sandwich, and a T token later, I was in Davis Square: 1400 hrs. I wandered the farmer's market, picking up bread and cheese, spinach, and plants (oops!) for tonight's dinner. Then I walked down to the grocery store for the remaining ingredients. I picked up eggs and crushed tomatoes and orzo and a few other things. I was through the checkout line at Porter and on my way home by 1500 hrs.

At any other time of day the store would be hectic, the crowds large, and the people grumpy. But on this rainy afternoon well before most people get off work, I could go and browse at my leisure and find my ingredients without fighting through the ocean of people looking for something quick for that night's repast.

So, I have biscotti in the oven (and about 5 minutes before I have to check them), and then I get to start sauteing onions and garlic for tonight's dinner. And it is only 1605. Not bad at all.
